Bookish and the Beast by Ashley Poston

Thank you Quirk Books for sending me an ARC copy of this beauty!!!!! I screamed in my reply email to poor Stephen about this one, I freaking love the Once Upon A Con series, they’ve all be so different and they’re just ugh so good.

Bookish and the Beast is the third book in this series, first being Geekerella and then Princess and the Fangirl, I’ve enjoyed all three of these Geekerella was my favourite until this one, for me it just smashed it, plus I also like the dog in this.. I’m not sure if this is my favourite because Beauty and the Beast retellings are also my jam but y’know probably helps ahah..

In the third book in Ashley Poston’s Once Upon a Con series, Beauty and the Beast is retold in the beloved Starfield universe.

Rosie Thorne is feeling stuck—on her college application essays, in her small town, and on that mysterious General Sond cosplayer she met at ExcelsiCon. Most of all, she’s stuck in her grief over her mother’s death. Her only solace was her late mother’s library of rare Starfield novels, but even that disappeared when they sold it to pay off hospital bills.

On the other hand, Vance Reigns has been Hollywood royalty for as long as he can remember—with all the privilege and scrutiny that entails. When a tabloid scandal catches up to him, he’s forced to hide out somewhere the paparazzi would never expect to find him: Small Town USA. At least there’s a library in the house. Too bad he doesn’t read.

When Rosie and Vance’s paths collide and a rare book is accidentally destroyed, Rosie finds herself working to repay the debt. And while most Starfield superfans would jump at the chance to work in close proximity to the Vance Reigns, Rosie has discovered something about Vance: he’s a jerk, and she can’t stand him. The feeling is mutual.

But as Vance and Rosie begrudgingly get to know each other, their careful masks come off—and they may just find that there’s more risk in shutting each other out than in opening their hearts.

This one went through so many emotions with me, there were funny moments, parts where I was really annoyed at Vance for the way he was acting, some sad but overall this book made me happy. I do love it when books just make you go through all the emotions, getting frustrated because you know they’re doing the wrong thing BUT THE BOOKS NEEDS A PLOT SO I MUST SUFFER THROUGH THE ANGST.

You also get *some* insight to characters from previous books, they’re mentioned and you find out how things are going but otherwise they’re not in it much though I do hope that maybe one day there will be a Once Upon A Con book that just has all the characters together, I feel that would be such a wholesome book!!

Have you read the first two books in this series? Don’t forget to preorder this gorgeous beauty, it’s out June 16th! What’s your favourite retelling book?
