Thank you to Titan Books for sending me a copy of this book!
Engagement season is in the air. Eighteen-year-old Princess Leonie “Leo” Kolburg, heir to a faded European spaceship, only has one thing on her mind: which lucky bachelor can save her family from financial ruin?
But when Leo’s childhood friend and first love Elliot returns as the captain of a successful whiskey ship, everything changes. Elliot was the one that got away, the boy Leo’s family deemed to be unsuitable for marriage. Now, he’s the biggest catch of the season and he seems determined to make Leo’s life miserable. But old habits die hard, and as Leo navigates the glittering balls of the Valg Season, she finds herself failing for her first love in a game of love, lies, and past regrets.
I read Alexa Donne’s debut novel Brightly Burning last year and gave it the exact same rating as this one, you can find my review for that here.
I’ve been looking forwards to The Stars We Steal ever since reading Brightly Burning, it was similar to her first book in the sense that it was set in space but it was romance heavy and it’s based on a classic book. I love romance books that are set as a sub genre as I find I prefer it a lot more to plain contemporary romance books!
The first novel, Brightly Burning was based off of Jane Eyre, which I never read and The Stars We Steal is a retelling of Persuasion by Jane Austen.. also never read that either, maybe I should..
Anyway, I managed to read a massive chunk of this is one night, I was gripped, I had fallen in love with our main character Leo (Leonie) I adored her character, she was such a strong person and I was rooting for her so bad throughout the book. I found this story to be super cute, there wasn’t a lot of action within the book but there is something suspicious that’s going on throughout it which I won’t mention, you have to read it to find out 😉
I liked the other characters as well, there was one who got on my tits a little bit, but it was fine as I was glad to see her development at the end of the book! I’m glad that the book turns out with a happy ending and I’m looking forwards to seeing what Alexa Donne brings out next!
Have you read this one or Brightly Burning?
