Synopsis:

‘New York Times’ bestselling author Renée Ahdieh returns with a sumptuous, sultry and romantic new series set in 19th century New Orleans where vampires hide in plain sight.

In 1872, New Orleans is a city ruled by the dead. But to seventeen-year-old Celine Rousseau, New Orleans provides her a refuge after she’s forced to flee her life as a dressmaker in Paris. Taken in by the sisters of the Ursuline convent along with six other girls, Celine quickly becomes enamored with the vibrant city from the music to the food to the soirées and—especially—to the danger. She soon becomes embroiled in the city’s glitzy underworld, known as Le Cour des Lions, after catching the eye of the group’s leader, the enigmatic Sèbastien Saint Germain. When the body of one of the girls from the convent is found in the lair of Le Cour des Lions, Celine battles her attraction to him and suspicions about Sèbastien’s guilt along with the shame of her own horrible secret.

When more bodies are discovered, each crime more gruesome than the last, Celine and New Orleans become gripped by the terror of a serial killer on the loose—one Celine is sure has set her in his sights . . . and who may even be the young man who has stolen her heart. As the murders continue to go unsolved, Celine takes matters into her own hands and soon uncovers something even more shocking: an age-old feud from the darkest creatures of the underworld reveals a truth about Celine she always suspected simmered just beneath the surface.

At once a sultry romance and a thrilling murder mystery, master storyteller Renée Ahdieh embarks on her most potent fantasy series yet: The Beautiful.

My Rating: ★★★★★

Disclaimer: I got this from the publisher, all opinions are my own.

Thank you to Hodder for sending me a beautiful copy of this book, I was so so happy that it arrived about 10 minutes before I was about to head up to London for YALC so that I get it signed by Renée Ahdieh herself – she was so lovely!

Moving onto the Beautiful, this book was incredible, I loved the story and the setting, I adore stories that are set in the late 1800’s and I hope that from this book that there will be more vampire books making an appearance in the Young Adult world again, we NEED more of them and I need them now please!

It was so so good that I can’t wait for the second book especially considering how this one ended, I was completely enthralled with this book, I fell in love from the very first page, the characters, Celine, she’s fled from Paris because she was a ‘murderess’, to New Orleans to make a new life for herself, she’s taken in by the local convent where she’s trying to find herself a job when someone approaches her asking for her to make a ballgown which Celine accepts she then meets the ever so handsome Sèbastien and gets caught up in the Le Cour Des Lions where the murder of a fellow covent girl is found and it somehow all connects with Celine somehow as the serial killer has got her in their sight.

I am DESPERATE for the second more, I need more in this world! This was my first Renée Ahdieh book and I do own both The Wrath and The Dawn and also The Flame In The Mist to read at some point!

I definitely highly recommend this one, it’s out in a month, you should 100% preorder it and I need to get a full cover copy for myself!

Now I need more vampire books to be released, I’m very excited for Jay Kristoff’s Empire of the Vampire which is out next year!
