Author Interview: Kat Cho

Not too long ago I did a blog tour for Penguin Random House which was meant to be an interview but I received the answers a tad late so bonus for you guys, I get to do another post for it! I sent off my questions for Kat Cho so without further ado here is the interview which consists of five questions! If you would like to read my review of this book you can follow the link here.

  1. What inspired you to write this story?

I wanted to write a story that included my own Korean culture as well as my love of Korean dramas. I really believe that Korean dramas are very similar to Young Adult in a lot of its tropes. And at the end of the day both types of storytelling really centers around characters, how we develop as humans, and how we relate to each other. So I loved the idea of combining some well-known YA tropes with Kdrama tropes and seeing how they’d play out on the page!

  1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve been writing books since I was a little girl. When my storybooks would end I’d get so sad, so my sister would help me write sequels and let me illustrate them. That really sparked my love of story telling and I haven’t looked back since!

  1. Overall, how long did it take you to write GUMIHO: Wicked Fox?

About 2.5 years!

  1. Do you have a most favorite K-Drama that you recommend for us to watch?

I don’t have a favorite so here’s a full list: Descendants of the sun (A modern day drama about a doctor that falls in love with a soldier. Lots of great chemistry in this one!), Oh My Ghostess (Love this one! It’s a paranormal story about an assistant chef who becomes possessed by a ghost, but things aren’t always as they seem and perhaps being possessed isn’t the worst thing to happen to her!), School 2013 (high school drama that centers on school life, teenage angst and friendship), Heirs (compared often to Gossip Girl), Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (historical drama with a sweet romance), Goblin (a drama that takes place in modern day Seoul but has roots in Korean mythology), My Love From Another Star (another modern day drama about an alien who was abandoned on earth in the ancient Joseon period and is searching for a way back home), W: Two Worlds (a drama about a graphic novel character that comes to life and the girl who gets caught up in his world)

  1. Do you have a favorite character from your book?

I love them all! But Somin holds a special place in my heart.

Thanks again to Penguin Random House for sending me a copy of Gumiho: Wicked Fox and thank you to Kat Cho for answering my questions! Now that the book is officially out, have you read it yet? What did you think? If you haven’t yet purchased I highly recommend that you do!!
