Disclaimer: I received an ARC copy of this book for free from the publisher, all opinions are my own.

I’ve been chased my whole life. As a fugitive refugee in the territory controlled by the tyrannical Mercer corporation, I’ve always had to hide who I am. Until I found Excalibur.

Now I’m done hiding.

My name is Ari Helix. I have a magic sword, a cranky wizard, and a revolution to start.

When Ari crash-lands on Old Earth and pulls a magic sword from its ancient resting place, she is revealed to be the newest reincarnation of King Arthur. Then she meets Merlin, who has aged backward over the centuries into a teenager, and together they must break the curse that keeps Arthur coming back. Their quest? Defeat the cruel, oppressive government and bring peace and equality to all humankind.

No pressure.

Thank you Rock The Boat for sending me a free ARC copy of this book!

This book was freaking amazing!!! It was such a glorious book and it deserves all of the stars, I’ve got no idea how this review is going to go because I thought that this was a gods damn masterpiece!

Once and Future is a gender bent King Arthur retelling set in space. Our main character Ari is the 42nd reincarnation of King Arthur whose on the run from the villainous Mercer Corporation because she’s an illegal refugee and one day she stumbles across a sword.. The Excalibur. Which awakens Merlin from his slumber to find the next Arthur and train her to defeat the Mercer Corporation and to bring peace to all humankind and break the curse.

Merlin has been training 41 previous Arthur’s in hopes that he can find the correct one to finally break the curse as Merlin has been ageing backwards over the centuries sleeping between the time an Arthur dies and the next one discovers the Excalibur and now he’s a teenager again and it seems like it’s his last chance to actual be able to get it right with the 42nd Arthur.

There was so much that happened throughout this book that there was never a boring moment within it, it was excellent. All the characters were so well done, Merlin was definitely my favourite character out of them all with Morgana a close second, my least favourite character was Gwen but I did grow to like her a bit more throughout the book!

The different orientations within this book was just on point! Not only is King Arthur a female but she’s Pansexual, our Merlin is gay and there’s also a gender fluid character and an ace character!

Throughout this book, I constantly thought about BBC’s Merlin TV show and I have to admit that I imagined most of the actors from the show as the characters in the book!

This book ended so well and it’s just left me wanting more, I’ve also been told by Cori that there were lots of cosmetic changes made from the ARC to the final copy including a few scene changes but the outcome is all the same so it’s given me the P E R F E C T excuse to reread the finished copy when I get my hands on the beauty to tide me over until the second book and because of that I will more than likely update this review once I do but I don’t think that it will change my opinion too much!

I definitely recommend that you all go and preorder this book because it’s absolutely amazing I think you all need to read it!!!!
