My second read of the year I decided to go with Honor Among Thieves by Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre, I haven’t read a book from either of them before, though I do own some of their books!
I think that The Honors is just going to be a duology but don’t quote me on that because I’m not actually sure! I enjoyed reading this book, I got some Illuminae vibes from it but less murderous. The second book, Honor Bound, is coming out next month, February 19th and I can’t wait! I actually hadn’t heard of this book before I saw it in Foyles and just grabbed it because the cover looked cool, no I didn’t read the synopsis so it was cover buy… #sorrynotsorry
In this book we have the main character Zara who has been in and out of rehab facilities and she never thought she would end up being a part of the Honors program. Being an Honor means you travel on a Leviathan for a year as a Tour and if you pass the Tour you are then chosen to go on a Journey.
The Leviathan made themselves known to Earth when they were on the brink of ruin and they offered their help in exchange for the humans to help them by going on these Tours/Journeys. There are two people per ship so alongside Zara is Beatriz and they end up becoming good friends.
Leviathan’s are aliens but they’re also ships and look like whales, there is actually an image at the beginning and it looks so cool! Anyway, the Leviathan ‘ship’ that Zara ends up on is called Nadim and they develop a bond that they never thought would happen before going on a Journey.
I really enjoyed this story, I loved the development of the characters and the world or perhaps universe building, it’s done up into five different parts AND there’s some sassy moments which actually made me laugh! Overall this was a good read and I definitely recommend it if you haven’t read it yet!
Have you read this one yet? What did you think? I’ve seen some mixed reviews about this!
