‘When the bats away, the cat will play. It’s time to see how many lives this cat really has.’

OMG YOU GUYS THIS BOOK! For me it was pretty damn amazing, Catwoman is one of my favourite DC characters. This book is based on when Catwoman was a teenager/young adult, I think she’s 18 throughout most of this book?? Anyway Selina Kyle has been away from Gotham City for two years and she returns with a persona as a mysterious but rich girl called Holly Vanderhees and she soon discovers that Batman is away so the city is left with Batwing to keep the criminals in their place. Selina teams up with Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn to wreck havoc on the city!

I didn’t read the synopsis of this book before diving in which makes it more mysterious to be honest so I didn’t know that Poison Ivy or Harley Quinn was even going to be in and YES IT WAS SO GOOD! I so badly want more books on these three characters, in life now, please? I do hope that after Superman that there will be more books in this standalone series because I would devour it! I know I’d love a book from Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and The Joker’s point of view, I mean how amazing would that be?!

I buddy read this book with Suzanne (bookmarvel) and at first I had a bit of a slow time getting into it because it’s got long chapters but once I got into it, I just flew through it, it’s my favourite book so far out of the DC Icons series but I have yet to read Wonder Woman: Warbringer, I tried to read it once but I couldn’t get into it and ended up in a slump so I’ve been avoiding it for that reason despite hearing how amazing it supposedly is.

Throughout this book, I pictured Catwoman as Anne Hathaway as she played Catwoman in the Batman movies and I love her, she’s a badass. Sarah J Maas is also one of my favourite authors so I’m glad that she was able to pull off this book as I think it’s a little different compared to her Throne of Glass and ACOTAR series. I decided to check through some Goodreads reviews and see what other people thought of the book and damn is it mixed! Despite the mixed ratings I 100% recommend this book, it’s got amazing characters and to me it’s written perfectly. Sarah J Maas didn’t over sexualise anything and there’s isn’t a lot of romance even mentioned in the book anyway which was fine with me!

In the DC Icons series there is Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo, Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu and now Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J Maas and coming out in January is Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt De La Pena! There’s no specific order to read this series in at all, you could even start with Catwoman or Batman etc. there’s no spoilers as they’re completely apart from each other.

Have you read Catwoman yet? Or perhaps any of the other DC icon books? Would you like to see more books added to the series after Superman as well? Let me know in the comments or find me on Instagram or Twitter.
