‘What if the missing person is your missing piece?’
Thank you to Lina, Ink Road & Black and White Publishing for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for a review!
I actually finished this book within a few hours one morning, I was gripped from the first two chapters so I could not put it down at all, I just needed to know what was going to happen, I absolutely adored the book, it was such a light, refreshing read! I don’t think I’ve ever read a contemporary like this, there is no book that I can think of to compare this to at all, for me, this was a short read being only 282 pages and this book is also a standalone.
‘I hated feeling powerless. I hated having no control. But sometimes, it was impossible to have control.’
In this book we follow Rose Valentine who follows the rules, take control and doesn’t take any risks until missing and mysterious Theo Lockhart shows up at her doorstep and all of her rules have been thrown out the window when she decides to take the risk. Theo is mysterious as no one at school including Rose knew a thing about Theo whatsoever as he choose to not make any friends.
I have to say that I don’t have a bad thing to say about this book at all, it was mostly a cute read however the book did deal with a few parent issues which include abusive parents and absent ones. Rose’s parents are lawyers who have decided they would rather work more than be at home to be there for their children so Rose is home by herself quite a lot especially since her brother has now gone to university and her brother became more of a parent to Rose than her parents ever were. I think that Rachel has dealt with these issues rather well, I liked the way that they were dealt with especially the abusive parents which you will have to read the book to find out more about.
Even though the full cover doesn’t look much different from the arc copy I have, I’m definitely going to be getting it, I mean it has glitter on the front and who can resist a glitter book AND a pretty cover?! I know I can’t! I highly recommend this book especially if you love a good cute and light contemporary read. Links to Goodreads and places to buy this book are below.
